Positive
The value of collected material is +100% for the pirate.
When you collect materials, the cooldown of all your weapons is reset.
Negative
The pirate starts with -100% attack speed.
Enemies drop -50% materials.

We start the run with the double barrel shotgun.
This gives you good area damage if you reset your cooldown by collecting materials.
Try not to collect the materials immediately but to time it a bit so that you can hit as many enemies as possible with your attack reset in order to generate new materials, which allows the process to be repeated over and over again.
Values
10-20% speed is very good here, as it allows you to get to the materials faster and reset your attacks.
With a lot of range (200+), your attacks will trigger more often if you can reset them.
Offensive
% Attack Speed can be completely ignored and any negative value can be taken if you can get something good positive with it.
This makes % damage and ranged damage all the more important.
Some % crit chance is not a mistake.
Defensive
Because enemies can sometimes come to you and you will attack slowly if there are no materials nearby, you need enough max HP and about 15 armor so that you can take a few hits.
To get your HP back, I recommend HP regeneration, as % life steal would be too uncontrolled here.

Items that cause more materials to appear are very useful here.
More trees means more materials.
Increasing your pickup range can also help you a lot if you can get materials from further away.
The alien tongue is perfect for this.
Or the little frog that even gives you extra harvest.
