After you have successfully established your space research, it is time to settle on another planet. At the beginning you can choose between Fulgora, Vulcanus and Gleba.
Each planet has unique conditions and research that you can unlock on that planet. However, an order emerged that made most sense for us: First, you should travel to Vulcanus, because this is where you can unlock important technologies for basic production.
Small and Large Worms on Vulcanus

There are large worms in the red zones on Vulcanus. Defeat them to unlock the areas for yourself and gain access to resource fields.
On the planet Vulcanus there are no enemies that actively spread and attack the player's base. So-called Demolishers are long worms that move in predetermined zones and destroy all buildings in their path.
Lasers are ineffective against demolishers because of their resistance, so rows of regular gun turrets will get you the furthest. Once the worm is killed, you unlock its entire area, as the worm will not respawn.

Foundry and Big Mining Drill
Relatively early on on Vulcanus, you unlock two buildings, the Foundry and the Big Mining Drill, that will make your basic production on Nauvis much more efficient. To do this, you have to load these items into a spaceship to fly them to Nauvis.
To use foundries on Nauvis, calcite is required, which you must initially deliver from Vulcanus to Nauvis.
While the foundry has a bonus production of 50%, the big mining drill collects resource fields much more extensively and faster, thereby consuming 50% fewer resources. Both production buildings can be further improved with four productivity modules.
Orange Research (Metallurgy)

With the help of the science packs for metallurgy, which you can produce on Vulcanus, you can really advance your research on Nauvis. To do this, you fly these research bottles to Nauvis to use them in the labs.
Of course, the green turbo transport belts are interesting, as they represent the final iteration of conveyor belts. They allow materials to be transported between factories even faster.
Researching artillery will make your life in Factorio a lot easier. With permanently installed artillery guns with a huge range, you can clear large areas of the map of nests and worms. Researching artillery is also extremely important in order to have an easy start on the planet Gleba later on.
The cliff explosives make it possible to finally remove the annoying cliffs on Vulcanus, but also on Nauvis. Just like the artillery and the corresponding ammunition, cliff explosives can be produced directly on Nauvis and Vulcanus.
Electricity Production on Vulcanus

Solar panels are particularly efficient for generating electricity on Vulcanus, as they produce +300% more energy due to their proximity to the sun. By using high-quality solar panels, you can further reduce the area required for your solar park.
Of course, the power supply can always be supplemented by nuclear or fusion reactors. Particularly energy-intensive foundries can create additional demand, which could make an alternative power source necessary.
Basic Production on Vulcanus

In the large foundries, the lava from the lava lakes can be processed together with calcite to create molten metal (or molten copper). The byproduct is stones, which you can burn directly into bricks in furnaces.
Make sure that excess stones don't block your entire production. I solved this problem with a splitter that uses inserters to burn stones that aren't needed for brick production in the lava. This is an effective way to get rid of items on Vulcanus.

The green turbo transport belts can only be produced directly on Vulcanus in Factorio. However, all previous types of conveyor belts are also required for this. Manufacturing them in the foundries is extremely worthwhile, as they have a base value of +50% on productivity.

While tungsten plates are produced from tungsten ore and molten iron in foundries, the production of tungsten carbide in assembly machines requires a combination of tungsten ore, carbon and sulfuric acid.
These two products are processed in foundries together with molten copper to create science packs for metallurgy, which you need for your research on Nauvis.

The production of heavy oil on Vulcanus is initially resource-intensive. With the help of coal liquefaction research, this process can be made much more effective. For this purpose, I created a setup that uses simplified coal liquefaction with just one oil refinery.
This first oil refinery (right side) is only used to produce the heavy oil needed to start the rest of the production. Once heavy oil is available, the remaining oil refineries supply themselves with heavy oil.
The refinery for simplified coal liquefaction only switches on when the level in the heavy oil tank falls below 1000. This enables a green cable that connects the oil refinery to the heavy oil tank.
Production of Rocket Parts on Vulcanus
Using the three basic resources on Vulcanus (calcite, coal and sulfuric acid), you can produce heavy oil in the oil refinery, which you ultimately need to produce rocket fuel and plastic bars (for blue processing units).
Low density structures can be manufactured directly by casting (with foundries) on Vulcanus. The foundry only needs molten iron and molten copper, as well as plastic bars.

The production of rocket fuel works the same way as on Nauvis. In this case, I have expanded the production of solid fuel by processing petroleum gas, because once the petroleum gas tanks are full, all oil production stops.
A pump, which is connected to the petroleum gas tank via a green cable, ensures that petroleum gas is also used to produce solid fuel when the level in the tank becomes too high (over 24,000 units).
Construction of the Spaceship to Vulcanus
In contrast to the satellite, which produces the science packs for space research (white bottles), your spaceship obviously needs an engine and a small production of fuel for the journey to Vulcanus.
The thrusters (spaceship engines) in Factorio need to be supplied with two liquids in order to function. In a chemical plant you produce thruster fuel (red) using carbon and water, and in another you produce thruster oxidizer (blue) from iron ore and water.
Both liquids are pre-produced and stored in tanks so that there are sufficient quantities available for departure. One full storage tank is sufficient for one flight, but if your spaceship flies several times in a row, several storage tanks per liquid are necessary.

The ship for my first attempt uses a spaghetti transport belt without logic components, where each type of asteroid chunk has its own conveyor belt. In contrast, the Vulcanus cargo ship has a space-saving so-called sushi belt, on which all types of chunks are transported together.
Defense Against Medium-Sized Asteroids
In orbit and on the way to Vulcanus you will encounter medium-sized asteroids (400 hit points) that will also cause damage to your spaceship if they collide with it. Therefore, it is important to always have enough repair packs on board to repair damage before buildings or foundations are destroyed.
During the flight, you must destroy the medium asteroids with gun turrets to prevent damage to your spaceship. Small asteroids do not cause damage, but shatter when they come into contact with the spaceship.
Because of the medium-sized asteroids, you need a small amount of ammunition production on your spaceship. The yellow ammunition is absolutely sufficient for this.
