Dismantle Flame Altar
To dismantle the Flame Altar, you must interact with it.
Once you've done that, you'll see the Extinguish Flame button.
If you press this button, you have another 30 seconds until this altar actually disappears.
Very practical if you made a mistake or changed your mind.
Flame Altar Strengthen the Flame
To upgrade your Flame Altar, you must first strengthen your Flame Altar's flame.
To do this, in addition to some more or less common consumables that you can get by farming or using the crafting stations of the various NPCs, you also need the head of a boss.
This essentially forces you to complete the quests and defeat bosses again and again so that you can strengthen the flame of your flame altar.
Strengthening the flame increases the overall capacity of the altars you can build to teleport to.
Your character also gets a bonus of attributes, which allows you to use various skills.
The time in Miasma increases, and you can enter higher levels of Miasma.
So strengthening the flame of the Flame Altar is actually the main goal you're aiming for.
Upgrade Flame Altar
To upgrade the Flame Altar, as already mentioned, you need a stronger flame.
In addition to this flame, you also need Shroud Cores.
You can make these at the Alchemist using Shroud Spores and Shroud Liquid.
Since you need some of these, you should always take them with you from enemies or collect them in the Miasma.
Reset Skill Points
You can also reset your skill points at the Flame Altar.
This can be done with runes.
Initially you only get a few of these from enemies, but once you unlock the blacksmith you can recycle weapons and thus get a larger number of runes very quickly and easily.
This makes it much easier for you to experiment with different skills and discover a different way of playing.
