Many Palworld players are wondering whether Palworld is playable in crossplay. I will answer this question in this blog post.

Introduction

Palworld, the latest craze in gaming heaven. Palworld caused a stir on Steam and Xbox over the weekend. Palworld brings survival elements and a lot of what you know from Pokémon. The limit of one million simultaneous players was simply broken on Steam over the weekend. Over four million games have apparently been sold on Steam, and the number is only expected to grow. Out of nowhere, the game surprised everyone.


The game was developed by PocketPair Inc. under the leadership of CEO Takuro Mizobe. As the name suggests, the development studio is based in Tokyo, Japan.

The game features a mix of survival elements with collecting 'Pals'. This is something we already know from other games, such as Pokémon. These creatures are not only useful for combat, but could also be used in base building and crafting.

Palworld is currently available on Steam and via Microsoft Game Pass. You can play it on Xbox. A PS5 release is currently desired by the community, but has not been officially announced yet. A Nintendo Switch release is not yet clear, and this is where I think there could be the biggest problems, precisely because of this proximity to Pokémon.

Cross play

We all play Palworld on PC, but what if someone wants to join with an Xbox? Does this also work with the PS? With the PlayStation I can already say that this is currently not possible (as of January 22, 2024). There is no exact information yet as to whether a PlayStation version is planned. It remains to be seen whether the game will even appear on the PlayStation. It's the same with the Nintendo Switch. We just don't know anything specific here yet.

Palworld Crossplay

How to play Palworld in crossplay? Many people ask themselves this question, and here is the answer: Crossplay with Windows (Game Pass) (PC) is possible between Xbox Series X and S.

There currently seem to be version incompatibilities between Xbox and the Game Pass version as well as the Steam version.

  • No crossplay with the Steam versions!
  • Crossplay between Xbox and Steam : Not immediately available, but planned.

Steam is currently simply up to date, and the other versions are still lagging behind. Steam currently offers version 1.2, while the Game Pass and the Xbox version are still at version 1.0.

However, the developers have announced crossplay between Xbox and Steam in the official FAQs! I think as soon as the versions match again the whole thing will work again.
